Frank · July 4, 2021 ·

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was established in 1970 and was charted to do the following:

  • Write and enforce Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards
  • Write regulations for motor vehicle theft resistance
  • Define standards for fuel economy

The NHTSA website has a webpage that allows you to enter your vehicle's VIN to see if there are any recalls for your vehicle. Here is the link:

https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls

And follow these steps to obtain the recall list for your vehicle:

  1. Navigate to the NHTSA recalls webpage by clicking here
  2. Enter your vehicle's VIN in the textbox labeled “Enter 17 Character VIN” and press <ENTER>

The NHTSA website will search its database of vehicle recalls and return a list of recalls if there are any for your vehicle.

If you want more information about the vehicle's specifications and vehicle's history like DMV records, service records, etc., you should check out the following low cost VIN reports:
